The Indigenous War Monument - A Joint Project

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association have joined forces to raise the funds to build an Indigenous War Monument in Grande Prairies Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre.

Our intention at Veterans Memorial Gardens + Interpretive Centre is to educate all who enter about the service and sacrifice of so many.

We wish to honour all of the soldiers and our regional Silver Cross Families from District One of the Royal Canadian Legion AB/NWT Command.

The Northwest Region of Alberta saw numerous Indigenous and Metis soldiers go to war. Many came home, many did not.

Randy Gauthier is an Indigenous Carver who lives in Moberly Lake BC and competes on a professional level. Randy has agreed to carve an Indigenous War Monument inspired by the Aboriginal War monument in Ottawa created by Noel Lloyd Pinay of the Peepeekisis First Nation in Saskatchewan.

Once carved, the monument will be placed here at Veterans Memorial Gardens + Interpretive Centre, 10121-93 St Grande Prairie in the Indigenous Soldiers Garden.

We are applying for a Veterans Affairs Grant in November 2020. It is a $25,000 grant.

The full cost of the old growth cedar, the carving, transportation, cement pad, pedestal and plaque and the install of the monument is $43,500 + taxes.

We also wish to raise the funds to "create" the Interpretive Garden this monument will be placed in.

That will require another $55,000 for the benches, solar lighting, foliage, soldier "service" panels and other embellishments and artifacts.

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is a CRA Registered Charity and can issue a tax receipt.

The Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association is a registered non profit.

We can honour sponsorships with signage and recognition on our sponsors page, we can not give tax receipts.

Our Fundraising Goal: $98,500 + taxes.
